Hiking in the Natural Park in Tarifa
During the walks and hikes you can enjoy the surrounding nature. In coastal areas you can see mainly Pitas, Brooms, Palmettos, Pines plus a variety of plants and flowers. Going inland the path continues through the forests of Pines, Cork oaks, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Cypress and another variety of trees and native shrubs.
Recommended costal trails in the Parque Natural del Estrecho are along the Atlantic Beaches of Los Lances and then the Mediterranean trails of Guadalmesí to Pelayo. Also the multiple paths around Paloma, Betis and Bologna where you can find ancient graves and cave paintings several thousands years old.
In the Parque Natural de los Alcornocales the path of Rio de La Miel, near Algeciras and the areas of La Peña and Facinas are also recommended.
Both parks are an important habitat for many animals and birds including birds prey. You will also find butterflies and other insects, reptiles such as lizards, snakes (there are only small species, not poisonous and therefore harmless), colorful lizards and geckos, amphibians such as frogs, toads , salamanders but also mammals such as rabbits, foxes, hedgehogs, martens, genets, deer and even mongoose, which in Europe can only be found here at the southernmost tip of Spain.
